The word കാറ്റ് is supposed to be air (and not any gas), whereas വായു is supposed to be any gas (perhaps including air?) - is this statement correct. Would someone please check the two entries I've created വായു here and കാറ്റ് ? In Tamil காற்று (കാറ്റു) would mean air and wind (but also can on occasion mean other gases but often with a prefix). The Tamil word வளி (വളി) means more or less the same, except that it can mean other gases equally probably. The scientific term we use for gas is வளிமம் (വളിമമ്), and it is a generalization of வளி (വളി). Just want to make sure I'm using/referring to the Malayalam words correctly. Thanks.--C.R.Selvakumar(talk) 13:50, 2 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 2010 (UTC)
- In Malayalam, വായു is air, abdominal gas etc., കാറ്റ് is wind, breeze etc., വളി is fart, വാതകം is gas (the state of matter) --Keral8(talk) 21:18, 2 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 2010 (UTC)
- Thanks for clarifying. In Tamil also we use வாயு (വായു) but it can mean air, gas and fart. വാതകം is not used. Another word is கால் (kaal, കാല്P means air/wind/gas (not fart). This word kaal becomes kaaRRu. But kaal is used in literary circles. vaLi is the word in சூறாவளி (ചൂറാവളി, meanng hurricane).--C.R.Selvakumar(talk) 00:15, 3 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 2010 (UTC)
