Is ഗരുഡൻ a generic term for eagle or only the so-called Brahminy Kite (white-necked eagle/kite)? In Tamil we use karudan for white-necked eagle (Brahminy Kite), and it goes by the name parundu (பருந்து pronounced as പരുന്തു). The word Parundu only means a big, powerful bird (fit for a bird of prey). I'm sure Malayalam should have many words for the birds of prey and I want to use the right word. In Tamil எழால், பாறு (vulture), வல்லூறு (Peregrine Falcon), கழுகு, கங்கு, கூளி, பருந்து, பணவை, பூகம், பிணந்தின்னிக் கழுகு (vulture), குடுமி எழால், are some of the varieties, but each is different from the other in some ways. In a dictionary precision is needed and I'm trying to understand whether ഗരുഡൻ is a generic term such as an eagle (as opposed to other types kite, falcon, vulture) or a specific kind of eagle.
