This template is used in the etymology section, similar to {{compound}}, but specifically for Hanzi compound. Use

{{Han compound|first part|second part|optionally more parts}}

For instance, a simple etymology of 幕}} could be created with:

{{Han compound|莫|巾}}

which evaluates to:

莫}} + 巾}}

As elsewhere, etymologies should be referenced.

More parts

For the character classification, a “ls”(stands for "liushu") parameter with "i/ic/psc" could be added:

{{Han compound|莫|巾|ls=psc}}

Where i means "Ideograms", ic means "Ideogrammic compounds", psc means "Phono-semantic compounds".

A Phono-semantic compound is made up of two characters: phonetic one and semantic one. Mark them by using “c1”, “c2” with parameters "p" or "s":

{{Han compound|莫|巾|c1=p|c2=s|ls=psc}}

Phono-semantic compound (形聲): phonetic 莫}} + semantic 巾}}

Furthermore, there is the possibility to give translations of the parts by using “t1”, “t2”:

{{Han compound|莫|巾|t2=textiles|ls=psc}}

Finally, alternative representation forms can be given by using the “alt1”, “alt2” parameters, take "慕" for example:

{{Han compound|莫|心|t2=heart|alt2=㣺|ls=psc}}
